Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi is the second largest airport in India, both in terms of passenger traffic and cargo. Woodhead worked as architect, interior designers and retail planners for this new airport in association with Larsen and Toubro Limited and Meinhardt Engineering. The entire design and construction process was completed within four years in time for the 2010 Commonwealth games, Carlisle was the only one able to match pace of the project with world class excuation for both massive underground are 2,30,000 Sqm with EPDM membrane & 60,000 TPO Roof with in the deadline first time in India. The design vision creates a memorable airport experience as a gateway to this region of India. The design embraces the original building’s spirit and form and adding a relevant and dynamic edge to the building envelope. The expressive architecture celebrates New Delhi culture and focuses on passenger comfort and experience at human scale.

The new airport features 40 gates, check-in facilities and the ability to operate in a swingate mode for either domestic or international.

Improving the commercial productivity of the terminal is at the forefront of Woodhead’s design consideration. The retail concept at the heart of the airport’s passenger journey experience not only provides a solid revenue base, yet a vehicle for high quality service activities and a memorable and exciting experience.
